How to Open an IPA File

An IPA packages an iOS or iPadOS application. Install it only through a supported, correctly signed distribution workflow; unzipping an IPA or changing its name to APK does not make it installable on another platform.

Choose what you need

Install through the developer’s supported workflow

For normal use, follow the app’s supported distribution channel. For an authorized development or registered-device build, use the provisioning and device requirements documented by the developer. Apple’s registered-device distribution requires the appropriate signing certificate, device registration and provisioning profile.

A downloaded IPA alone does not guarantee that your device is included or that its signing credentials remain valid.

Inspect an IPA without installing it

An IPA can be inspected as a package with archive-aware tools; preserve the original and the contained hierarchy. Finding application resources is not the same as running the iOS executable. Do not alter a signed package and assume its installation authorization will remain unchanged.

IPA will not install on iPhone, Android or Mac

Ask the developer to check the build’s distribution method, device eligibility, signature and supported OS version. Expired or inappropriate provisioning can require a new build or renewed authorized distribution.

Android cannot install IPA as APK, and an arbitrary iOS device build is not automatically a Mac app. Obtain the supported platform version. This website does not re-sign or install your application.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert IPA to APK by renaming?

No. The package and executable target a different platform; obtain an Android build.

Why does a valid-looking IPA not install?

Installation depends on the signing, provisioning, supported system and distribution workflow, not just archive completeness.
