How to Open an ABM File
Open an ABM album with the application that created it, such as ArcSoft PhotoStudio or PhotoImpression for a confirmed ArcSoft album. An album can reference images stored elsewhere; the ABM alone may not contain your original photographs.
Choose what you need
Identify the ABM album before opening it
Check which application and computer the file came from. PRONOM documents the ArcSoft PhotoStudio and PhotoImpression album variant; its signature starts with PALM. That is a clue for this variant, not a universal rule for every file named .abm.
Keep the album together with its original folders. If you have only an emailed ABM, ask the sender for the associated photographs or an export rather than trying unrelated album applications.
Open an old ArcSoft photo album
- Make a copy of the ABM and its associated image folders.
- On a computer with the original compatible ArcSoft application, use its album-opening workflow to select the copy.
- If thumbnails appear but full images do not, locate the original image files and reconnect their locations using the application’s available controls.
- Export or copy the original photos to a separate folder for long-term access.
These are legacy applications. This guide does not supply an installer or guarantee compatibility with current Windows or macOS.
Recover photos when the original software is unavailable
Search the original disk and backups for JPG, PNG or other image files in the folders recorded by the album. A thumbnail is not necessarily a full-resolution photograph. Changing ABM to JPG will not reconstruct the collection.
If inspection shows a different ABM variant, identify its originating application first. The photo-album instructions above do not apply automatically to unrelated files with the same extension.

Can I convert ABM to JPG?
An album is not a single JPG image. Recover or export the original photographs through its associated application; renaming does not convert the album.
Why are my ABM album pictures missing?
An album may refer to pictures at locations that no longer exist. Find the original image folders or backups and reconnect them in the originating application.
