About the VIR file type:
If Windows cannot find the appropriate program associated with .VIR files, then your registry may have errors. Check your Windows registry for errors (includes file association errors).VIR files are typically files that have been infected by a computer virus that was renamed by an anti-virus software application such as the Symantec's Norton Antivirus software or the Avira AntiVirus software. The .VIR extension is usually appended to the filename for instance an executable example.exe will be renamed to example.exe.vir by the software in order to indicate to the virus application that the file is infected by a virus and also it will disallow the windows operating system to be able to execute the virus by mistake. On renaming these files by removing the .VIR extension will allow you to be able to view, run or open these files using the standard applications that recognize it but it is highly dangerous to do so and it is not recommended to do so. It is best practice to simply let the file be as it is or go to your anti-virus application and delete the files that have been quarantined or detected from the file system or you can also delete these files manually of you encounter them yourself.
