These files only contain ACSII characters. Therefore, these files can be created and processed easily using other applications. Moreover, SLK specifications are not published by Microsoft. Several variants of the file format are also supported by Microsoft Excel, Multiplan, OpenOffice.org, Gnumeric, and Microsoft Works.
