File Extension ROM

File type: Read Only Memory Image

About the ROM file type:

If Windows cannot find the appropriate program associated with .ROM files, then your registry may have errors. Check your Windows registry for errors (includes file association errors).

The ROM file extension is used with the ROM update files or emulation files. The files using the ROM file extension are usually images or duplicates of the different pieces of information saved on computer chips or on the cartridges of read-only video games. These files are read using the modified ROM device readers appropriate for the device being read. The ROM images are played on the computer using the ROM emulations software. These files also contain pieces of data used for updating or restoring the Read-Only-Memory of certain hardware devices. These are also usually used for updating Firmware.
