The .PPTX file extension identifies Microsoft PowerPoint Open XML files. Previously PowerPoint files were saved with the .PPS, .PPT or .POT file extensions. The .PPTX extension is now associated with a new format that Microsoft is developing for PowerPoint, which is based on the XML format to allow PowerPoint presentations to include a richer range of content including even video media. Microsoft promises that this will become an open format. Scan your system to prevent and identify association errors.

Additional comments:

.PPTC files should have backward compatibility with previous recent versions of MS PowerPoint and Office (including PowerPoint 2000 and Office 2000 onwards). Alternatively you can view these files by installing PowerPoint Viewer 2007. To create and view .PPTC files you will need to install MS Office 2007 or MS PowerPoint 2007.
