The Office Personalized Settings File is the proprietary file format employed by Microsoft software. It is used in the Preference files used by the Microsoft Office programs in storing the settings for Personalized Menus and Toolbars. These settings are created by each Microsoft Office program by evaluating first which menu commands are mostly used. Then, only the most commonly used commands are displayed with the shortened version of the menu.

The files with the files extension PIP may be found in the Application Data\Microsoft\Office directory. The PIP files are given the name [program].pip. If the menu settings created are for the Microsoft Word application, it will be saved as Word11.pip or Word.pip. Moreover, the menu options in the Microsoft Office applications can be customized manually by choosing the View menu, then Toolbars, then Customized and finally by clicking Options. The PIP files may also be referenced by any application and should never be opened by the user manually.
