The PIM file extension is used in the compressed file archives created using the PIM Arhiver software, a software application developed by a Russian programmer Ilia Muraviev. This software application allows multimedia files to be compressed using high compression ratios. The archives are then saved with the file extension PIM.

The most recent version of the software allows the PIM files to be compressed with the new PIMv2 format. The files created using the software may have extract support for QUAD, BALZ, JAR, ZIP, QUAKE PAK, PK3 and PK4 archives. The PIM Archiver software has a simple and original interface allowing users to easily create PIM archives. Moreover, the IM files may be opened and modified using removable devices such as U3 smart and USB flash drives. Other file types such as the Personal Information Manager file and the Ultimate Draw : Pascal text mode image file also use the PIM file extension.
