The file extension PAB is used to identify a data file with address book information. This file extension is often used by Microsoft email programs like Outlook. Files with the PAB file extension are usually edited, updated or created by Microsoft Outlook; therefore, it is not necessary to access the files directly. However, there are cases when other applications and programs may also be able to import the data files saved using the PAB file extension.

The PAB file extension also makes it possible to move the user's Personal Address Book from one computer to another. The user just needs to find the .pab files from the system files and folders and pick the most recent Personal Address Book and copy them to a floppy disk or flash disk. After the PAB files have been copied in the disk, they may be transferred to the other machine. To access the files with the PAB file extension from Microsoft Outlook 2000, the user just needs to click on Tools, Services, Add and Personal Address Book. The user may then browse and choose the .pab file from 'My Documents' and click twice. The .pab files will then appear in the Outlook's Address book window. This may also be done in Microsoft XP or 2003.
