MIM is a special encoding format that is used specifically for e-mail messages as well as attachments to email messages that includes 8-bit data or some other characters which are other than the standard US characters that are available in the US characters set. This encoding format supports traditional 8-bit content along with the normal 7-bit messages which are normally sent through e-mails.

The MIME files with the extension MIM usually appear as a part of email messages or they may also be seen as an entirely separate attachment.
