MID files are standard MIDI files. MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface and these files essentially contain musical data such that it identifies the notes that are to be played for the file, when they are to be played, how loud these notes should be, how long the notes should be played, tempo of the song, etc. It also often contains controller data in order to indicate a change in the instrument for the MIDI hardware device. It may also sustain specific pedal information as well as some other kinds of MIDI related data. These files can easily be played on the computer using various software for the instruments although the files themselves do not contain the actual data for audio.
