File Extension MANIFEST

File type: Windows Visual Styles File

About the MANIFEST file type:

Invalid file associations could be the result of underlying issues within your Windows PC. It is highly recommended to scan your PC for invalid registry entries, unused processes and other slowdown issues.

The MANIFEST file is an XML document which updates older windows programs to be able to use the new Windows Vista or the Windows XP user interface. It binds the applications to comctl32.dll file version 6.0 which is the file that gives the new Windows XP/Vista its appearance and also describes dependencies for the applications such as common windows dll files which may be referenced. The MANIFEST file can be used in order to make XP use its newer and richer user interface on older applications. The MANIFEST file is commonly named the same as that of the application and is also usually in the same root directory as the application executable in order for the effect to work.
