File Extension FIL

The FIL file extension is used in the identification of the Files List Object file. The FIL file extension is a list of database objects that have been stored in a database. The FIL file extension was created by the early version of the dBASE and ACL for Windows. It is similar to the STR file which defines the structure of the dBASE database. dBASE had first been employed as a DBMS or database management system for microcomputers. It had been initially developed by Ashton-Tate for CP/ M and then later, the Apple II, UNIX, IBM PC on DOS, and Apple Macintosh. dBASE had been slow in successfully transitioning to Microsoft Windows. It gradually lost its share in the market to its competitors like Paradox, FoxPro, Microsoft Access, and Clipper. In 1991, Ashton-Tate was acquired by Borland which then sold the product line's rights to the then newly-founded dBase Inc.In the mid 80s, a number of other companies had began producing their own variations of the language and product. These included the Arago, Force, dbXL, Clipper, FlagShip, Xbase++, Quicksilver, dbFast, FoxPro, Recital, CodeBase, Harbour or xHarbour, and MultiBase.
