The EST file extension is used by the map files saved by the travel and mapping software Streets and Tips. It includes locations and street maps as well as the style, font settings and map view. The software could also store drawing objects, custom symbols, pushpins for marking the locations, and custom routes. The EST files are employed by a number of versions of Streets and Tips beginning with version 2000. Microsoft Streets and Tips had been developed by Microsoft as a mapping software. It is functionally a subset of the Microsoft MapPoint that targets average consumers in the region of North America that perform various map-related tasks like route planning. The European version of the said software is being marketed as the Microsoft AutoRoute and covers the entire European continent including Armenia, Georgia, Cyprus, Russia and Turkey. Another version of the product currently being marketed comes with a Global Positioning System or GPS receiver that enables users to utilize the product like a satellite navigation system.

The 2006 and the much later versions of Streets and Tips comes bundled with an advanced text-to-speech voice referred to as the Microsoft Anna. These use the ETS file extension as well. The Microsoft Anna is a component of the Windows Vista and Windows XP computers. This component functions as a voice-prompt direction. The 2006 version has been designed for the Windows 98/Me while the 2007 version has been intended for the Windows 2000. The Streets and Trips 2009 includes the street name pronunciations as a component of the voice-prompt direction. The map of Mexico in this version includes the street-level data of small towns but the find-address feature still has not been enabled for this country. Another program that employs the EST file extension is the Webalizer, a Web server tool for log analysis.
