The DT2 file extension is used for DTED or Digital Terrain Elevation Level 2 data files. The files with the .dt2 file extension contain cells that reference longitudes and latitudes in a system for geographic reference. Data information about terrain elevation is defined in meters. The files with the .dt2 file extension also contain elevation post locations that are identified by row and column intersections in a matrix. Matrix intervals in DTED are shown in geographic arc seconds and vary with the latitude. This software is used in geospatial intelligence, which is an analysis and exploitation of geospatial information and imagery to assess, depict visually and describe geographic activities and physical features of the earth. The technology is provided by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, a support agency of the US Department of Defense.
