File Extension DES

File type: Pro/DESKTOP CAD File

About the DES file type:

If Windows cannot find the appropriate program associated with .DES files, then your registry may have errors. Check your Windows registry for errors (includes file association errors).

The CAD (Computer Aided Design) file generated by the Pro/DESKTOP application uses the DES file extension by default. This image file can represent either a two- or three-dimensional drawing that can be used primarily in the education industry. The shapes created using this application can be seen by the user in the form of enhanced, shaded, transparent, or wireframe images. CAD based applications normally are associated with architects and engineers because of its valuable functionality in the field of object design. CAD today is an integral element in majority of three-dimensional design projects. It provides designers with an electronic representation of the design in a timely and accurate manner prior to commencing any construction activity. The distinct advantage possessed by this file type over the conventional pencil and paper representation is that it can be rotated, resized, and moved instantaneously without requiring the object to be redrawn giving the designer a more comprehensive appreciation of the objects final output.

The Pro/DESKTOP (Pro/D) application together with the DES file extension was conceived by Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC) to support the transfer of the three-dimensional designs into two-dimensional engineering drawing formats along with the ability of creating photo-realistic views with the use of the Album Views feature. This software can be deployed in conjunction with the Pro/ENGINEER application identified with the Granite kernel but can also be deployed as a standalone CAD system. The participation of the Pro/DESKTOP application and its associated DES format file in the education market began in the United Kingdom under the Schools Initiative program. The use of the Pro/DESKTOP application goes beyond the 3D limitation of its main rival AutoCAD. This application features the areas of Design Window, Drawing View, and Album View. The Design Window represents the main work area of the software where the two other areas retrieve information. Sketches are drawn in various workplanes and can be converted from two-dimensional to three-dimensional file formats. The Drawing View allows the user to create a Technical Drawing representation of the generated design. It also supports various industry drawing standards like JIS, ISO, DIN, ANSI, AFNOR, and BS308 among others. The Album View is responsible for the photographic representation of the user's design accompanied by a broad range of options to modify the object's view.
