The DCT file extension represents the Database Container Memo file generated by the Microsoft Visual FoxPro programming language. This file is normally created as part of the DBC format file, the extension used by the Visual FoxPro database. The memo file normally contains textual notes that reference the contents and behavior of the main database file. The memo fields are normally reserved for the encoding of long descriptions which widen the information contained in the other fields of the database file or pertinent miscellaneous information which do not fall under the category of other data fields. Another way is to double click on the memo field under the tabular view of the database layout. When the separate Memo Window opens, the user can enter the desired text in the window which will be reflected in the main database and stored in a separate file with the DCT file extension. This format supports the memo functionality of the data-centric programming language Visual FoxPro. This development language is widely regarded as a procedural and object oriented system that was developed by Microsoft Corporation. This language is founded on the FoxPro programming language which was immensely popular during the DOS era.
