File Extension DCF

The DCF file extension represents the Digital Rights Management (DRM) Content Format File used for encoding media files for copy protection purposes. This data type is commonly found in cell phones and used for the storage of protected ringtones, videos, pictures, and other similar media clips. This file format is also similar to the DM format file and differentiated by the rights object that allows the playback of the encrypted data stored under a separate file. As a protected file, the DCF file extension is considered as a locked format which means that they can only be accessed by the device authorized to use them; thereby eliminating the possibility of sharing the media.
