The ABS file extension is a proprietary format developed by Ruediger Bruehl to represent the data file created by his Abscissa software. This freeware application which is exclusively hosted under a Mac OS X 10.3 or higher Operating System platform allows for the creation of two dimensional plots based on given data contained in the table form. The produced data can also be modified by the user based on a defined set of formula provided by the user himself. This application supported by the ABS file extension is a useful scientific tool that features the least-square-fit module which supports the optimization of the parameters involved in the formula to best fit the given data. The application supports the importing and exporting of ASCII format data along with fast plotting and reading operation. It also provides numerous plotting styles for the data stored in the ABS format file. Linear as well as logarithmic axes are included with text object incorporation feature for the diagram which plots data based on the x and y points.

The data stored by the ABS file extension is supported by four distinct interpolation methods which allow for the application of f(x) with flexible parameters. The fit of function feature provides the identification of multiple independent coordinates along with the inclusion of API to provide application control from an external software source. The ABS format file can support the recording and playback of Perl scripts including the data sorting and editing within a spreadsheet application. The data manipulated by the application can also be used for the extraction of data statistics and even correlation. To facilitate the usage, the application is bundled with scripting examples and automatic updating feature with configurable legend functionality. It also uses a user interface which supports universal binary that can allow for the faster display of long polygons on the user's screen. The transparent bitmap created with a user defined resolution can be exported to other applications like the Microsoft PowerPoint.
